Foot fungus: symptoms, causes.
The fungus is a disease caused by fungal organisms. Often the infection affects the feet and then spreads to the nails.
It is easy to become infected with the disease; just walk barefoot where there is already a mushroom.
Most often, the infection occurs in public places: in a sauna, a shower, a swimming pool. A humid environment is suitable for the reproduction of spores. The skin flakes, along with the fungus, remain on floors, carpets, and even wipes.
It's also easy to get fungus from a pedicure salon if the tools aren't sterile.
The symptoms of the appearance of fungus on the feet are different, since they depend on the type of infection. However, there are several common characteristics. I will tell you more about them.
In my practice, the most common symptoms of fungus on the legs are:
- constant itching on the skin of the feet, especially in the area between the toes;
- unpleasant smell;
- changes in the color and structure of the toenails;
- peeling or thickening of the skin;
- the appearance of small cracks and wounds;
- pain when walking;
- the formation of bubbles with liquid.
If you notice such signs, in order not to harm your health, I recommend consulting a doctor, as medication may be necessary.
The causes of foot fungus are different. Among them, my colleagues note:
- mechanical injury to nails and skin;
- poor quality shoes;
- increased sweating;
- alteration of the immune and endocrine systems;
- age-related changes (older people are more susceptible to fungal infection than children);
- some diseases (diabetes mellitus, metabolic disorders).
To avoid getting the fungus, take care of your own shoes and practice good hygiene when visiting public places.
This also applies at home - you can get an infection from other family members. Do not use other people's things under any circumstances.
